Job Description
Family Harm Social Worker – ISR Team Secondment opportunity until 30 June 2027. Based at our Papanui Site in the ISR Team, the role works across all sites including Rangiora. About the role We are working with children and families in Christchurch to make positive change in our community. The work is demanding but rewarding. The job supports front line social workers who hold high risk family harm cases in the assessment phase or other areas of the program. Responsibilities Co‑work cases with front line social workers, including case consultations where family harm is identified as high risk in the FSS system. Home visits to families with the social worker. Attend whanau hui and professionals’ hui with a care and protection lens to support discussion and decision-making regarding pathways for children and families. Qualifications Social work qualification with full registration and a current Annual Practising Certificate with the New Zealand Social Work Registration Board. Passion for working with children and youth, connecting, understanding and building relationships to help provide positive outcomes for them. Strong commitment to strength‑based practice. Understanding of Te Ao Māori and indigenous models of practice. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated resilience, problem solving techniques and flexibility. Understanding and awareness of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989. Awareness of cross‑cultural practices, particularly tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ culture. Knowledge of social work practice in child protection and related New Zealand legislation. Full, clean, current driver’s licence. Ability to work as a team member with resilience in highly stressful situations.
