Job Description
Kaimahi – Full‑time As a full‑time Kaimahi, your primary mission will be to restore mana, strengthen safety, and enhance the wellbeing of our older people, ensuring they maintain control over their lives. Guided by Ngāti Porou tikanga, you will work closely with whānau, hapū, and community agencies to provide coordinated and holistic support across the region. Key Responsibilities Advocacy and Support: Provide practical, emotional, and cultural support to kaumātua and kuia while advocating for their rights, safety, and dignity. Whānau‑Centred Practice: Develop support plans alongside clients and whānau using a client‑led, strengths‑based approach. Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with marae, health providers, and social services, and support outreach to isolated rural communities. Safety Planning: Support immediate safety planning where family violence or elder abuse risks are identified. Qualifications A Full New Zealand Driver Licence is essential, as the role involves regular travel throughout the East Coast. You must also meet Children’s Act and Police Vetting requirements. Experience: Proven experience working with kaumātua, whānau, or within the social services and health sectors. Cultural Knowledge: A strong understanding of Ngāti Porou tikanga and Māori models of wellbeing. Skills: Excellent relationship‑building skills and the ability to work independently across rural communities. Communication: Proficiency in Te Reo Māori is preferred, alongside strong documentation and organizational skills. Applicants must be eligible to work in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
