Job Description

Programme Director – Finance & ERP Enterprise Transformation We are seeking a senior Programme Director to lead a 3‑year finance and enterprise resource planning (ERP) transformation program for a leading tertiary education institution in Auckland. The role reports to the COO, with a dotted line to the CFO, and will oversee the design, implementation and adoption of a new target operating model, enterprise software and processes across the organisation. The position is a fixed‑term contract (18‑24 months initially, extendable to a 1‑year renewal) and offers a competitive salary, negotiable with outcome‑based milestone incentive. Purpose & Scope The Programme Director will drive the programme from mobilisation through delivery, ensuring governance, compliance, resource management, quality, benefits realisation, change and adoption, and equity considerations are met. The role will manage a programme budget of $50‑$100million and a team of over 100 stakeholders, including internal subject‑matter experts, external suppliers and delivery streams. Deliverables Programme Leadership and Governance Programme Planning and Controls Stakeholder Management Financial and Resource Management Quality and Delivery Management Benefits Realisation Change and Adoption Management Te Tiriti O Waitangi and Equity Alignment Key Responsibilities The Programme Director will: Lead cross‑functional programme teams and, where necessary, restructure or augment the team with external partners. Collaborate with senior leaders (CFO, Head of Strategic Programs, Organisation Performance & Improvement, etc.) to align programme outcomes with the university’s strategic objectives. Allocate and manage a $50‑$100million programme budget, ensuring financial and resource oversight. Oversee risk, compliance and governance frameworks, and report to the Program Steering Committee. Champion change management and governance to secure organisational uptake, addressing resistance and fostering adoption. Drive progress through detailed programme controls, ensuring milestones are met and benefits are realised. Ensure the programme aligns with Te Tiriti O Waitangi principles and promotes equity. Qualifications – Essential Proven experience leading large, complex programmes of similar duration and budget with successful outcomes (≥$40million). Experience in enterprise finance ERP transformation programmes. Senior senior management or director‑level reporting experience (Board/C‑Level as appropriate). Strong stakeholder engagement and strategic planning capabilities within a sophisticated institution. Self‑driven, able to influence decision‑making, and manage resistance to change. Valid NZ work visa (or sponsor‑able). Qualifications – Preferred Background in government, councils, large enterprises, education or a Big4 or consulting firm. Knowledge of project management methodologies (PMI, Prince2, Agile, etc.). Experience handling large‑scale transformation and change‑management initiatives. Willingness to embrace Māori values, tikanga and other NewZealand leadership values. Location: Auckland CBD, flexible hybrid with 1–2 days work‑from‑home. Start date: ASAP.
