Within this, the Technical Advice and Support (TAS) function provides specialist advice that supports safe, consistent and effective regulatory outcomes across Maritime NZ. Te tūnga | The role Maritime NZ is undergoing a period of change to strengthen its sustainability and future focus. Following an organisational redesign, we are recruiting into a number of newly shaped roles that support our shift toward more efficient, digitally enabled ways of working, helping position us for the future. In this role you’ll be focused on strengthening how technical advice and support is delivered across the organisation. As the Technical Practice Lead, you’ll provide leadership for the development and embedding of consistent, high-quality technical practice, ensuring guidance, processes and decision-making approaches are clear, practical and effective. You’ll work closely with technical leaders and teams to improve how work is delivered, bringing consistency while allowing for appropriate flexibility and professional judgement. Key areas of focus include: Developing and maintaining practice guidance and processes for technical advice and support Ensuring consistency and quality in how technical decisions and approvals are made Supporting the embedding and application of agreed practice across teams Providing advice and clarity on how technical support should be used and applied Driving continuous improvement through feedback, assurance and learning Strengthening planning, tracking and system discipline across technical work Supporting alignment and effective collaboration across teams and stakeholders This role is central to ensuring technical advice is delivered in a way that is consistent, reliable and fit for purpose across the organisation. You’re an experienced technical or regulatory professional who understands how to translate complex requirements into clear, usable practice. You bring a strong systems mindset and the ability to influence without formal authority. You will bring: Experience developing and managing technical practice and processes or standards Familiarity with integration of AI tools into work streams Strong understanding of quality assurance and structured decision-making Ability to embed consistent practice across teams in complex environments Experience working closely with senior technical leaders Strong systems thinking and attention to detail Experience improving planning and tracking of operational processes Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach Maritime NZ recognises and respects te Tiriti o Waitangi and we are committed to working with Māori to build strong, meaningful and enduring relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
