Job Description
Overview Hospital in the Home Services in Whangarei and Bay of Islands is seeking a motivated and experienced Designated Senior Nurse to deliver patient‑centred Hospital in the Home (HiTH) care to patients across the Mid North and Whangarei districts. The role is permanent, full‑time (40 hours per week) and rostered across 7 days, normally from 07:30 to 16:00. Key Responsibilities Provide patient‑centred HiTH care to high‑acuity patients in their homes. Work collaboratively with the Whangarei Hospital in the Home team and other multidisciplinary teams to offer expert advice, care coordination, resources and support. Apply advanced assessment, diagnostic reasoning and monitoring skills to manage complex conditions. Deliver specialist acute care equivalent to an inpatient bed, including access to hospital specialists, diagnostic services and medications. Work Schedule & Location Primarily based at Bay of Islands Hospital with occasional shifts in Whangarei. Rostered 7 days per week, hours 07:30‑16:00. Qualifications & Experience Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC). Current Expert Registered Nurse Programme (PDRP) Portfolio. Specialty knowledge and practice expertise in acute nursing. Postgraduate diploma in specialty nursing practice. New Zealand nursing experience in specialist acute care settings, demonstrating work at the top of nursing scope with high‑acuity clinical skills and advanced patient assessment and critical thinking. Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and knowledge of health‑related services across the Mid North district. Great communication skills to ensure patients and whanau understand medication, treatment, conditions and instructions. Proven ability to work alongside whanau to support Hospital in the Home care. Current full New Zealand driver’s licence with confidence driving across varied terrains. Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability and the ability to think on your feet. Willingness to contribute to the development of a new service and help establish a new team.
