Job Description
About the Role As a cardiac sonographer at Waikato Hospital, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality cardiac care. Your responsibilities include performing and reporting on transthoracic echocardiograms, assisting with transoesophageal studies and other echo‑guided procedures, and supporting both inpatient and outpatient services, including urgent assessments in the Emergency Department, ICU, and operating theatres. You will also conduct examinations at satellite echocardiography clinics in surrounding communities. Key responsibilities of the role Undertake a full range of echocardiographic examinations and complete technical reports. Complete preliminary reports with the Cardiology/Echo system. Identify, demonstrate and report cardiac pathologies. Participate in TTE and TOE lists within the department as well as mobile and bedside examinations when required. Support more complex procedures in the operating theatre and cardiac catheter lab (e.g., percutaneous valve replacement, PFO and ASD/VSD closure devices, balloon valvuloplasties). Participate in the on‑call after‑hours service. Perform an echo list at one of our satellite hospitals. About the Team / Service The Cardiac Ultrasound Service at Waikato Hospital provides a comprehensive range of invasive and non‑invasive cardiac procedures to the local community. Equipped with advanced technology, the department performs over 9,000 scans annually, including leading‑edge 4D echocardiography. The service champions innovation, compassion and a commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. About You Be registered as a sonographer with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologist Board (MRTB) and hold a current practising certificate; OR hold an appropriate qualification for cardiac sonography acceptable for registration as a sonographer with the New Zealand MRTB. Must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
