The purpose of the Redress Team is to lead our redress service to assess and respond to claims relating to children and young people who have experienced abuse whilst in the care of Oranga Tamariki. The redress service offers a range of responses which takes account of holistic needs and actively promotes the rights of survivors and claimants. A significant part of the work of the team is to further strengthen and develop the claims service, incorporating learnings from the Royal Commission, and to contribute to the design and development of the improved redress system. Purpose of the Senior Advisor position Assess and respond to claims related to children and young people who have experienced abuse whilst in the care of Oranga Tamariki. Provide a kind and caring response that supports a journey of healing. Ensure the support is child‑centric, promoting the wellbeing of children and reflecting their views in all claims and redress activities. Provide expert knowledge and guidance to inform assessments. Advocate on behalf of individuals to enable the delivery of a suite of responses. Location: Wellington. Candidates must be based in Wellington or be willing to relocate. Role type: Fixed term until 30 June 2027. Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring Effective, timely and nationally consistent response for claimants. Ensure tamariki and rangatahi remain at the centre of decision making in the claims and redress response. Build and maintain strong relationships across Oranga Tamariki and other departments and agencies. Build relationships with community and agency providers to maximise service provision. Work with management to identify themes from claims information to inform feedback loops and improve services. Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ culture.
