Principal Civil Engineer | Transportation Stormwater Full-time State/Province: Auckland Business Group: DCS Legal Entity: AECOM New Zealand Limited Business Line: Transportation Work Location Model: Hybrid Operating Group: International Primary Location: NZ - Auckland What you’ll be doing Take the reins on stormwater design for major transport projects—delivering smart, sustainable solutions that meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance Lead from the front by providing technical direction across road drainage, cross drainage, water quality, and flood management systems Play a key role in project delivery—guiding planning, coordination, and execution to keep projects on track and exceeding expectations Build trusted, long‑term client relationships—becoming a go‑to expert and identifying new opportunities for growth Collaborate with top‑tier multidisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering challenges and deliver seamless, integrated solutions Drive technical excellence through robust reviews, innovation, and continuous improvement in design practices and digital tools Inspire and mentor the next generation of engineers—sharing knowledge, building capability, and shaping future leaders Contribute to winning work—supporting proposals, thought leadership, and strategic growth in the transport sector What you’ll bring A degree in civil or environmental engineering (or similar) 10+ years’ experience, with strong expertise in stormwater design for transport infrastructure Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), or on the path to achieving it Proven experience working with key clients such as Auckland Transport, NZTA, or local councils Advanced knowledge of stormwater modelling and design tools (e.g. 12d, Civil 3D, HEC‑RAS) Strong understanding of New Zealand standards, codes, and regulatory frameworks A track record of delivering high-quality outcomes across complex, multidisciplinary projects Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills A natural leader who enjoys mentoring, guiding teams, and driving collaboration Commercial awareness and a passion for delivering value to clients Benefits Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, part‑time, job‑sharing and hybrid work options Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year Flex public holidays – swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better Continuous learning and growth - lunch and learns, professional development courses, financial study assistance, 5 days paid study leave, global career opportunities Equal Opportunity Employer As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we believe in your potential and are here to help you achieve it.
