Job Description

Clinical Pharmacist (Part-time, 40 hours per fortnight, 0.5 FTE) – Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital Location: Hastings, New Zealand. Overview As a Clinical Pharmacist you will deliver high‑quality pharmaceutical care to patients across Hawkes Bay Hospital, ensuring safe, effective and efficient use of medicines. Your role will encompass ward‑based clinical pharmacy services, medicines reconciliation, ward rounds, clinical advice to nursing and medical staff, medication counselling for patients and whānau, dispensing and operational services, medication safety initiatives, monitoring drug usage, supporting the Hospital Medicines List (HML) implementation, and participation in audit, quality improvement and service development projects. Responsibilities Participate in ward‑based clinical pharmacy services. Undertake medicines reconciliation. Attend ward rounds. Provide clinical advice to nursing and medical staff. Support medication counselling for patients and whānau. Participate in dispensing and operational services. Contribute to medication safety initiatives. Monitor drug usage. Support implementation of the Hospital Medicines List (HML). Assist in audit, quality improvement and service development projects. Provide teaching and mentoring for junior staff. Support an on‑call roster. Requirements Recognised pharmacy qualification and registration with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand. Current Annual Practising Certificate. Strong knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics and medication safety. Excellent organisational and time‑management skills. Ability to build effective relationships with clinical teams. Positive, solution‑focused attitude and commitment to high‑quality patient care. Understanding of TeTiriti oWaitangi and commitment to equitable health outcomes. Desired Qualifications Hospital pharmacy experience. Postgraduate pharmacy qualifications. Experience in mentoring, teaching or supporting junior pharmacists.
