Job Description

Position Regional Telecommunications Specialist – Fixed Term – Te Upoko Region at Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Role Overview Reporting to the National Telecommunications Manager, you will join a small specialist team providing regional and nationally consistent telecommunications support, with a particular focus on rural operational requirements. As a trusted technical expert you will support and maintain critical radio and communications systems, deliver telecommunications projects, provide advanced technical support, and build strong working relationships with operational staff across the region. Key Responsibilities Support, maintain, and troubleshoot radio and communications systems across stations, vehicles, and operational environments. Manage contractor support and installation, including ensuring quality assurance. Deliver telecommunications projects from planning through to implementation. Coordinate telecommunications equipment installations, upgrades, and maintenance. Provide Level2 and Level3 technical support and fault resolution. Travel regularly throughout the region. Qualifications Proven experience designing, installing, and supporting radio communication systems. Strong knowledge of telecommunications and communications technologies. Experience working with communications hardware, networking equipment, and related technologies. Relevant tertiary qualification in telecommunications, engineering, ICT, or equivalent industry experience. Understanding of rural operational firefighting environments and requirements. Skills and Experience Practical and solutions-focused approach. Strong customer service and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to build, configure, and support hardware solutions using off-the-shelf products. Experience managing technical projects or contracts. Ability to work effectively with suppliers, contractors, and frontline operational teams. Salary Salary range: $102,751 – $114,168 (pro rata), dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role. Location and Term Fixed‑term role starting ASAP through to 24December2026. Available anywhere within the Te Upoko region.
