ESY Special Education Assistant, Summer 2026 Classification: Non-Exempt Date Posted: December 18, 2025 Salary: By year, salary placement is determined by flat rate, salary schedule, or per diem. Contract Length/Days: Summer 2026 Reports to: School Principal Location: Special Education District Application Deadline: Until filled Summary / Objective: Supervises student conduct, instructs individual or small groups of students, supports school-wide assessment, and performs other duties and clerical tasks as assigned. Essential Functions Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce instructional material planned and/or presented by classroom teacher; assist with computer assignments and various classroom activities; support individual students' access to the curriculum (e.g., note taking, reading, assistive technology). Instruct small groups in assigned content areas in alignment with in‑building or in‑district training. Administer selected assessments and tests in alignment with in‑building or in‑district training. Perform clerical duties such as copying, laminating, record keeping, data entry, filing, cutting and pasting. Interact with technology for data entry and instruction, including hardware and software programs such as interactive whiteboards, document cameras, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web‑based systems. Monitor students before, during, and after school, on the playground and in the cafeteria; implement the school’s PBIS. Assist with lesson plans. Perform other duties as assigned. 90% of time spent with students. Ability to sit for long periods of time with visual, auditory, and ambulation acuity; move quickly from one position to another in response to student needs. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Education / Experience Required: Associate’s degree preferred or 48 semester hours of approved college credit; or passing scores on the Work Keys exam. Preferred: Experience in a related field. Additional Qualifications Basic knowledge of computer data entry, office procedures, office equipment, reading, arithmetic, grammar, and spelling; ability to communicate effectively with students and district staff; willingness to learn assistive technology software. Physical Demands / Work Environment Ability to sit for long periods, tolerate distractions, maintain visual and auditory acuity, and lift up to 50 lbs. Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs; regular attendance required.
