Health Care Assistant - Ward 4

Ward4, Surgical Services – Whangarei Hospital – Permanent full‑time position, 40‑hour week, rostered shifts. Part‑time options will be considered. Training will be provided. About the Role Under the direction and delegation of a registered nurse (RN) the Healthcare Assistant (HCA) provides assistance to patients to meet activities of daily living, comfort and safety needs. The HCA performs delegated patient care duties to enhance patient satisfaction and housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, tidy and organized environment. About the Team / Service / Location Ward4 is a 28‑bed inpatient surgical ward in Whangarei Hospital, one of the main secondary hospitals serving Northland. It operates within Surgical Services, caring for adult patients requiring inpatient surgical management and recovery. Ward4 supports a mix of surgical specialties such as colorectal, complex general surgery, complex urology and trauma, providing variety and making each day different. Ward4 handles both elective and acute admissions. About You – Qualifications and Experience Good command of verbal and written English. No experience is necessary – training will be provided on site. NZQA health‑care qualification at level 3 or above is desirable. Current first aid certificate and/or two years experience in the health sector as an HCA or in a related role is desirable.
