Job Description
Senior Policy Analyst - Housing Policy team Make a meaningful impact on the lives of all New Zealanders. We are seeking an experienced, motivated and inquiring Senior Policy Analyst to join our Housing Policy team at the Ministry of Social Development (MSD). You will provide policy advice to Ministers on housing‑related social assistance with a focus on the lower end of the housing market, support service‑delivery colleagues to improve housing outcomes and independence for our most vulnerable, and collaborate with government agencies and stakeholders such as the Ministry of Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport and Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities. The role includes both short‑term, tangible change and longer‑term strategic work, often within tight timeframes. Responsibilities Prepare high‑quality policy advice for Ministers and senior leaders. Support the development and delivery of a varied policy work programme, including immediate issues and strategic long‑term reforms. Lead and coach junior staff, enhancing the team’s capability and delivering on project objectives. Co‑ordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure policy outputs are clear, well‑reasoned and politically neutral. Elevate the organisation’s policy setting to reflect diverse needs and wellbeing while supporting staff well‑being and work‑life balance. Qualifications Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills, with excellent judgement. Clear, persuasive written and verbal communication skills. Collaborative working style and the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships. Perseverance, curiosity and a commitment to Te Tiriti Waitangi and understanding of te Ao Māori.
