The Hybrid Multi Cloud (HMC) group operates within the Digital Services directorate. The purpose of the Hybrid Multi-Cloud Group is to manage and operate across various on-premises, private and public cloud platforms in the national digital health ecosystem.You will play a key role in day-to-day operational support, ensuring service availability, stability, security, and compliance with technical standards on Linux and Unix systems. Working closely with senior engineers and other technical specialists, you will troubleshoot complex issues, support the implementation of solutions, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen Health NZ's digital environment.You will also engage with project teams and vendors to ensure solutions are delivered in line with technical requirements and operational needs. This role requires a proactive, solution-focused mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex, nationally operating environment.The role will require on-call participation and occasional work outside standard hours to support system maintenance, incidents or project work.**Key Responsibilities*** Deploy, configure, and maintain digital and IT services in line with technical standards. Experience supporting Linux and/or Unix systems is required for this role. Please ensure your cover letter and CV outline your experience in these areas.* Support day-to-day operations to ensure service availability, performance, and stability* Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues and incidents* Support the implementation of technical solutions and service improvements including automation and scripting where possible* Work closely with senior engineers and technical teams to deliver reliable services* Engage with project teams and vendors to support solution delivery and alignment* Contribute to national ways of working across Digital Operations* Identify opportunities to improve service performance, security, and reliability* Maintain documentation and support compliance with operational and security requirements**About the Team/Service/ Location**The Digital Operations team sits within the wider Digital Services Directorate and plays a critical role in supporting clinical and operational services across the organisation at national, regional, and local levels. The team works collaboratively with clinical stakeholders, internal customers, delivery teams, senior digital leaders, and external vendors to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing digital environments that enable quality patient care. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, innovation, equity, and health and safety, the service fosters a culture of teamwork, shared knowledge, and national alignment, removing silos and simplifying ways of working to deliver better outcomes for the communities we serve.**About you**You are an experienced Linux engineer who brings a strong technical foundation and a proactive, service-oriented mindset to digital operations. With proven experience in deploying, configuring, and maintaining Linux and/or Unix systems, you are confident troubleshooting complex technical issues, managing incidents, and supporting the implementation of robust digital solutions. You combine hands-on operational capability with strong communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to work effectively with stakeholders across clinical, operational, and technical environments. You demonstrate a clear understanding of your obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and apply its principles meaningfully in your work, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability. Adaptable and resilient, you are comfortable managing competing priorities, participating in on-call rosters, travelling when required, and working outside standard hours to ensure service continuity and excellence.**To succeed in this role, you will bring:*** ICT / Technology professional with 1-3 years of experience in deploying, configuring, and maintaining **Linux or Unix systems** in a complex environment.* Operational experience of Public Cloud environments.* Scripting, automation or programming experience within a Linux context preferably using automation tools such as Ansible or similar* Ability to execute operational tasks, troubleshoot technical issues, and support the implementation of solutions.* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other relevant qualification, or equivalency in a related field is preferred.* The role will require on-call participation and occasional work outside standard hours to support system maintenance, incidents or project work.* Service management and ITIL certifications are desired.**Working for Health New Zealand**Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
