About the Role The Clinical Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting safe and effective healthcare delivery through the repair, maintenance, and servicing of surgical instruments and other medical devices across Te Toka Tumai hospitals. This is a hands‑on precision engineering role, primarily focused on working with small, intricate surgical instruments rather than large machinery, making it ideal for qualified tradespeople who enjoy detailed technical work and problem‑solving in a specialised healthcare environment. The role is primarily based at Auckland City Hospital, with occasional travel to other local sites. Key responsibilities include: Service, maintain, repair, and refurbish surgical instruments. Ensure medical devices are safe, fit for purpose, and compliant with relevant standards. Provide technical support for clinical equipment across hospital sites. Respond to equipment‑related issues as part of the Clinical Engineering team. Contribute to the delivery of high‑quality Clinical Engineering services that support patient care. About the Team/Service The Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology (PSC&HTM) team at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora are a national function with a vast and complex scope. They play a critical role in ensuring the availability, safety, and efficiency of clinical and non‑clinical goods and services across the health system. Responsible for managing and influencing over $9 billion in annual spend, the team are central to delivering high‑quality patient outcomes and standardising product usage across regions. About you You are a trade‑qualified technician or engineering professional with strong practical skills and a customer‑focused approach. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment, take pride in delivering high‑quality work, and are committed to ensuring clinical equipment and surgical instruments are safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. This is a role that is suitable for qualified Fitter & Turners, Toolmakers, or applicants with equivalent trade qualifications. You will bring: Relevant trade, diploma, degree, or equivalent technical qualification and experience Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and accurate record‑keeping skills A positive, customer‑focused approach, with integrity and the ability to build strong working relationships A current full New Zealand driver licence, good physical fitness, and the ability to work in a hospital environment and bicultural setting Working at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
