About the role Located in a rural setting, you will join a close‑knit and supportive team committed to providing safe, high‑quality care for women and their whānau. This role supports women planning to give birth at our primary birthing unit or in their own homes, ensuring a positive and personalised maternity experience. You will also provide antenatal and postnatal care for women who have birthed at Queen Mary Hospital in Dunedin, whether by choice or clinical need. Working collaboratively with two other pairs, you will participate in a flexible fortnightly rotating roster. The role involves coordinating staff and equipment to meet identified needs, while delivering strong clinical and professional leadership. You will ensure that discharge planning and handover to Well Child providers are timely, well‑coordinated, and of a high standard. To support your practice, you will have access to a vehicle and all necessary equipment to deliver optimal care while on‑call. Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will be a New Zealand Registered Midwife holding a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC), along with a relevant postgraduate qualification. You will have a strong understanding of caseloading care within the Midwifery Council of New Zealand’s Whānuitanga o Te Mahi / Scope of Practice, and be competent in applying the Guidelines for Consultation with Obstetric and Related Services (Referral Guidelines) in your clinical practice. A current full driver’s licence is essential, as is your ability to work autonomously within a rural setting. You will demonstrate cultural competence in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or show a genuine commitment to developing your capability and taking ownership of your ongoing learning in this space. Ideally, you will also bring experience contributing to initiatives and projects that give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and frameworks. This includes the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly within healthcare settings.
