About the Team We’re a Culture and Capability team focused on leading and managing the ‘Weaving the Cloak – Whiria te Tāngata’ programme to embed our organisational culture and values across the business. The team is responsible for developing and delivering the organisation’s capability‑building strategy and learning programmes, supporting our people to lift performance and achieve the goals of TeKorowai oKaitiakitanga, including strengthening our regulatory approach. The Culture and Capability team serves as a key partner in the TeKorowai programme, ensuring that the desired culture and capability outcomes are effectively embedded, well‑managed, and clearly communicated throughout the organisation. The role The Senior Advisor Culture and Capability role is a 6‑month fixed‑term maternity cover opportunity supporting the delivery of MaritimeNZ’s capability programmes with a focus on Leadership. You’ll provide continuity across key initiatives and be a trusted source of capability expertise for the organisation. Key Responsibilities Maintain momentum across the MNZ capability suite, with a focus on leadership development. Ensure the organisation continues to offer relevant and impactful capability programmes aligned to our Leadership pathways that build leadership capability at every level. Lead our Onboarding and Induction experience by evolving our employee induction experience. Support the design, development and implementation of other core capability initiatives, programmes and projects that align with the organisation’s capability strategy, regulatory approach and strategic priorities. Partner across the business to ensure our capability solutions are practical, effective and deliver measurable outcomes. What you bring We’re looking for an adaptable and collaborative capability practitioner who can step in confidently, build effective relationships quickly, and provide continuity to our business. You’ll be the kind of person who thinks your way through a problem, provides great solutions and is a team‑first player at heart. Ideal candidates will have Proven experience in capability development and the end‑to‑end (L&D) lifecycle, including design, development, delivery, implementation and evaluation of pragmatic capability solutions. The ability to identify business needs and translate them into practical and impactful capability initiatives that build organisational capability and support strategic outcomes. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to pick up existing work quickly and manage multiple projects at once. A delivery mindset with a history of delivering work effectively, where outcomes were achieved and commitments were delivered to a high standard. The ability to thrive in ambiguity, known to progress and deliver outcomes while responding flexibly to emerging business needs and priorities. Good stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building skills, with a genuine desire to work alongside the business and with diverse stakeholders. Strong understanding of learning theory, models and contemporary practices. Good working knowledge of TeTiriti oWaitangi and what it means to be an effective Treaty partner, as well as cultural capability required to work effectively with Māori. Well‑developed presentation and facilitation skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Technical savvy, with experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and using online authoring tools (e.g. Articulate Rise).
