Job Description

Overview Psychiatric registrar (non‑training position) / Senior House Officer (PGY3+) at Gisborne Hospital, Tairāwhiti. Permanent rostered & varied hours in a 110‑bed acute care setting that serves a wide geographical area in East Cape NewZealand. Responsibilities Deliver mental health assessment and treatment for both inpatient and community families. Carry out outpatient clinics, ward work and on‑call duties, with specialist psychiatrist supervision at all times. Manage complex, high‑pressure situations while maintaining a compassionate, patient‑centred approach. Qualifications Medical degree and completion of basic training in psychiatry, with progression toward Fellowship or equivalent. Registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Council of NewZealand. Suitable for Resident Medical Officers PGY3 and above. Competent in Te Ao Māori, Tikanga and Te reo Māori, or a commitment to learning and growth. Experience in projects that apply TeTiriti principles, Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches in healthcare settings.
