About the Role We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Allied Health Assistant to support our team of allied health professionals. The role is based on our acute wards with various specialities across Wellington Hospital and involves tasks to support the allied health service and taking on activities delegated by Allied Health Professionals including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Speech Language Therapists and Dietitians. As an Allied Health Assistant you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of individualised care plans, promoting independence and enhancing the overall wellbeing of our patients. Key Responsibilities Assist allied health professionals to deliver treatment plans and interventions under delegation. Screen notes and act as a second pair of hands for patient transfers. Support patients with practicing daily living tasks, mobility and exercise programs. Assist with equipment provision and adaptation; complete exercise programmes. Facilitate group classes and be responsible for some administration tasks. About the Team and Service Location You will be part of the Allied Health Whānau which includes Occupational therapists, Physiotherapists, Social workers, Dieticians and Speech Language therapists. The team comprises eight Allied Health Assistants providing services to patients admitted to Wellington Hospital. About You The person we are looking for will be compassionate, reliable, and motivated to support patients and clinicians across our busy hospital environment. You will bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to delivering safe, high‑quality care. You will have the following skills, attributes, and experience: Knowledge and Experience Previous experience in a healthcare setting, ideally within a hospital environment. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks effectively. Confidence working independently with patients under delegation from a registered clinician. A collaborative approach and the ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated honesty, reliability, and professionalism. Professional Qualifications National Certificate in Community Support (Level 3) – Core Competencies. National Certificate in Health, Disability and Aged Support (Level 3) – Health Assistants (Rehabilitation Assistance or Health Assistance strand). An equivalent qualification. If not yet completed, a willingness and commitment to complete one of these qualifications. Other Requirements A good level of physical fitness to safely meet the demands of the role. A full driver’s licence. Proficiency and confidence using computers and clinical systems.
