Job Description
Cargo Operations Officer (Fixed term until 15/11/26) Location: Auckland, New Zealand About the Role The Cargo Operations Officer is responsible for coordinating and monitoring cargo operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of cargo across the shipping network. The role works closely with internal teams, terminals, vessel operators, and customers to support cargo movements, resolve operational issues, and deliver a high standard of customer service. Responsibilities Coordinate cargo loading, discharge, transhipment, and movement activities to ensure operational efficiency. Monitor and manage special cargo shipments, including reefer and other specialised cargo. Liaise with terminals, depots, vessel operators, overseas offices, and internal stakeholders to resolve operational issues. Investigate and resolve cargo claims, disputes, and requests for information in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with customs, MPI, and other regulatory requirements, as well as company procedures. Maintain accurate cargo records, reports, and operational documentation. Identify opportunities to improve operational processes and support continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications Previous experience in cargo operations, shipping, logistics, or the maritime industry. Strong knowledge of import/export processes and container shipping operations. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with both internal and external customers. High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using shipping or logistics systems. A proactive, team-oriented approach with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
