SAP Functional Lead

We’re looking for an experienced SAP Functional Lead to join us and play a key role in a large‑scale core banking transformation. Mō te tūranga | About the role Our Transactional Banking platform sits at the heart of ASB, enabling real‑time, always‑on banking services for our customers and bankers. As SAP Functional Lead, you’ll lead functional design and delivery across SAP Transactional Banking (TRBK), supporting a major migration programme and working closely with delivery squads, architects, business stakeholders and external partners. This is a senior, hands‑on role combining technical leadership, solution design and people leadership, where you’ll influence how SAP is implemented, ensure clean core principles are upheld, and help lift capability across the SAP Functional chapter. Key Responsibilities Partnering with Customer Experience Owners, Business Analysts and delivery squads to shape business requirements, epics, features and user stories Leading functional design across SAP TRBK, ensuring solutions meet business needs, regulatory controls and SAP best practice Collaborating with architects, engineers, vendors and partners to design and deliver high‑quality SAP solutions Producing and reviewing high‑level and detailed solution designs and securing required design approvals Supporting system build, testing and delivery alongside squads Actively promoting clean core SAP implementations and supporting audits and assurance activities Providing functional leadership, coaching and mentoring to SAP Functional team members Driving continuous improvement across customer and banker journeys using standard SAP and BTP out‑of‑the‑box functionality Outcomes You’ll Be Responsible For Business & system requirements: partner closely with squad BAs and stakeholders to understand, shape and validate business and system requirements System design & configuration: design and configure SAP TRBK solutions that meet business needs, regulatory requirements and SAP best practice Functional leadership: lead and mentor SAP Functional Engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching and day‑to‑day support Process improvement: identify and implement opportunities to improve functional delivery efficiency and effectiveness Training & enablement: support and uplift capability across SAP teams and end users through training, knowledge sharing and hands‑on support Testing & quality assurance: oversee testing and quality assurance activities to ensure solutions meet functional, technical and business requirements Stakeholder engagement: maintain clear, regular communication with stakeholders, providing progress updates and incorporating feedback Documentation: ensure solution, design and project documentation is complete, accurate and kept up to date Issue resolution: proactively identify, manage and resolve functional issues during implementation and ongoing support Continuous improvement: stay current with SAP TRBK functional trends and apply learnings to continuously improve ASB’s core banking solutions Ngā mea kia whai angitū ahau? | What will help me succeed? We’re looking for someone who brings deep SAP and banking experience, combined with strong collaboration and leadership skills. You’ll Likely Have Proven experience designing and delivering SAP solutions in banking or financial services Strong knowledge of SAP Banking Services, with TRBK experience highly desirable Exposure to S/4HANA, SAP BTP and Fiori (advantageous) Experience working in agile delivery environments Ability to mentor and guide SAP functional engineers and support team capability uplift Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence navigating complex delivery environments A continuous improvement mindset, with a passion for SAP best practice and quality outcomes He aha tā mātou | What can we offer Get the work‑life equation right.
