Job Description
Health Care Assistant Permanent full-time position, 40 hours per week, based in JCCC / Te Hihiri Whakahauora – Whangarei Hospital. About the Role As a Health Care Assistant, you will work under the direction and delegation of Nursing and Midwifery, contributing to safe patient, tūroro and tangata whai ora care. Your duties include assisting with delegated activities, maintaining a safe, pleasant, functional environment, greeting patients and families, answering phone enquiries, referring clinical calls to the appropriate health professional, and supporting the daily functioning of the department through housekeeping, restocking, and reception/administrative tasks. About the Team / Service / Location The Cancer & Blood Service at Whangārei Hospital delivers specialist cancer and blood disorder care for people across Te Tai Tokerau. The service is based at the Jim Carney Cancer Centre and includes Medical Oncology, Haematology, Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment, specialist nursing, and allied health services. It recently expanded with Te Hihiri Whakahauora, Northland's purpose-built Radiation Oncology Unit, bringing radiation therapy closer to home. About You At least 3 years secondary schooling. Proficiency in reading, speaking and writing English. Basic computer skills. Ability to meet the physical demands of the role. Understanding of the articles and principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply them in your role. Alignment with Te Whatu Ora New Zealand Te Tai Tokerau values. Desired (not essential): Intermediate/advanced computer skills. Customer service experience. Experience in a healthcare setting. Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) focused on Health assistance, or working towards this qualification through the Te Tai Tokerau Health Care Assistant Development Programme.
