Job Description
Tutor/Kaiako – Hei Whanake Programme (Tauranga or Katikati) Use your teaching and mentoring skills to make a meaningful difference for rangatahi in the Bay of Plenty region. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Tutor/Kaiako to join our Hei Whanake team in either Tauranga or Katikati. This full‑time, permanent role offers the opportunity to support rangatahi into meaningful pathways through hands‑on learning in the primary industries. Hei Whanake is a 20‑week programme designed for rangatahi who are not currently engaged in education or employment. The programme focuses on building confidence, work‑ready skills, and entry‑level knowledge in horticulture, with graduates achieving the New Zealand Certificate in Primary Industry Skills (Level 2) with strand in Self‑Management and Employability Skills . About the Role Deliver engaging, practical learning to rangatahi across a 20‑week programme Support the development of soft skills, work readiness, and industry knowledge Work with individuals and small groups to build confidence and capability Foster a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment Build strong relationships with rangatahi, their whānau, and support agencies Connect with local employers and industry stakeholders in viticulture and horticulture Work alongside a supportive team, including a Tauranga‑based Regional Coordinator and kaiako across other regions About You Experienced in facilitating youth or adult learning Confident working with rangatahi, including those with complex needs or barriers to learning Strong understanding of, or experience working with, Māori and Pacific learners Brings empathy, resilience, and a calm, practical approach Skilled at building relationships and creating trust Strong communication and organisational skills Holds a Level 5 Certificate in Adult Education or another relevant teaching qualification Role Details Position: Full‑time, permanent Location: Tauranga or Katikati Start Date: mid July 2026 Supported by a Regional Coordinator (Tauranga‑based) and a wider national team What’s on Offer?
