Ski Technician

Adventure Hostels offers a winter sports equipment rental service to guests during the ski season. The Ski Tech will ensure that guests are sized into the correct boards or skis and corresponding boots, and that the rental process runs smoothly. The position is on‑call between 5 and 7 pm each day. The Ski Tech meets guests at the Reception desk, takes them to the equipment store for fitting, then reports back to the Receptionist so the guest can pay and receive a rental form. All equipment is preloved or donated. Wardrobes of ski jackets, pants, helmets and goggles are handled by Reception staff. The Ski Tech’s main focus is on ski or snowboard gear. Commission: 25 % of the gross value of board and ski rentals, capped at the accommodation value of $275 per week. No commission on winter clothing. Rent is $30 per day for either snowboard/boots or skis & boots. Typical Interaction You receive a text from the team during the day that a guest wishes to be sized in at 6:30 pm. At 6:25 pm you meet the guest at Reception and bring them to the ski locker room. You provide great service, size them into the correct gear, and answer any questions. Once the guest is fitted, you walk them back to the desk and hand over the rental form to the Reception team. The guest rents a snowboard and boots for 5 days; you receive $37.50 of discounted rent in advance. The entire interaction takes about 15–20 minutes. Key Points Ski Tech lives on‑site at Adventure Q2 Hostel in the shared 8‑bed staff room. Accommodation cost: $265 per week. Must be available on‑call daily between 5 pm and 7 pm. Earns 25 % of gross board/ski rental value, capped at $265. Position covers both Queenstown hostels. Starts 9 June (arrival earlier at staff rate is allowed). Ends mid‑September (subject to season length). Requirements Experience with board and ski fittings, bindings and gear. Commitment to remain with us throughout the season.
