We are seeking a Registered Occupational Therapist to join our team. About the Unit Te Whare Hohou Roko, is a 9‑bed forensic inpatient unit that provides specialised therapeutic security, rehabilitation and recovery orientated care and treatment for people with a diagnosed mental health condition who require a medium secure care environment. The multi‑disciplinary team delivers MDT Case Management, which requires staff engagement and commitment to individualised, person centred, strengths based, collaborative care, based on tangata whaiora's needs, risk assessments, identified goals, cultural identity, and informed family/whanau input. As a team we treat each other with respect, dignity, and work together to provide safe outcomes for our tangata whaiora, including reintegration back into the community setting. This is a full‑time, permanent position. The required hours of work for this role are Monday to Friday 0730‑1600hrs or 0800‑1630hrs. About the role In this role, you will be responsible for: Taking a lead role in facilitating the therapeutic programme, including individual and group‑based activities in collaboration with other members of the MDT. Developing therapeutic relationships, supporting consumer choice, autonomy, and personal responsibility. Completing functional assessments and formulating interventions to meet individual strengths and minimise vulnerabilities. Using a range of risk assessments to ensure safe implementation of functional tasks, including sensory modulation assessments and techniques. Contributing to MDT treatment planning and discharge planning, including community integration. Identify meaningful activities and explore vocational and recreational goal setting. Demonstrating professional accountability and a great sense of humour. Skills and Experience The ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the consumer physical, psychological, social, cognitive and developmental level in relation to the presence of mental disorder. The ability to evaluate the impact of treatment outcomes with the consumer / whanau and significant others and modify treatment goals according to their changing needs. Exceptional communication, organisation, and time management skills. Experience in relationship building and maintaining professional boundaries.
