Job Description
Overview Permanent full‑time opportunity within Health, Safety and Wellbeing for Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland Council). SME role supporting people leaders and kaimahi. Hybrid role (3 days onsite, 1‑3 days remote) with travel throughout the region. Based in Auckland CBD with travel to support sites. Responsibilities The Health and Safety Advisor plays a key role in supporting managers, people leaders, and kaimahi by providing practical Health and Safety advice and guidance. The role offers the opportunity to pioneer, design, develop and implement Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) systems and frameworks across a large, complex organisation. Provide technical guidance, peer support, and act as an escalation point for HSW issues. Collaborate with the wider organisation to design and develop procedures, guidelines, and documentation, ensuring a strong focus on end‑user experience, simplicity, and full legal compliance. Support systems and processes with accurate information and insights to inform new workstreams and organisational projects. Support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance requirements are met and continuous improvement opportunities identified. Assist in the management of HSW documentation, overseeing change request processes for systems and documentation updates. Qualifications Minimum Level 6 H&S qualification or equivalent and professional body accreditation (e.g., NZISM). Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and regulations, including the wider regulatory environment, along with an understanding of relevant national and international H&S frameworks and best practice. Experience in HSW risk management, including application of ISO 45001 standards and ACC AEP audit requirements. Demonstrated capability in writing H&S standards, policies, procedures, guidelines, and other documentation suitable for a range of audiences. Minimum 3–5 years’ experience within similar roles. Ability to deliver Health & Safety projects while responding effectively to business requests for H&S advice and support, including contributing to assurance, verification, and auditing activities.
