Job Description

Job Title Emergency Medicine Registrar – Whakatāne Hospital (Full‑time, commencing February2027). Benefits 12‑month accredited Emergency Medicine training with ACEM Rural hospital experience with strong links to inpatient specialist teams 18‑bed department with approximately 27,000 presentations per year, 25% paediatric Dedicated non‑clinical days and opportunity to lead a non‑clinical project Location on the East Coast – outdoor lifestyle, beaches, and a friendly hospital team Role Overview As an Emergency Medicine Registrar, you will work in a dynamic, high‑functioning ED that serves a rural and diverse population across the Eastern Bay of Plenty. The role includes clinical shifts rostered alongside experienced SMOs, non‑clinical development days, and 1:4 weekend coverage. This position is accredited for 12 months of training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and exposes you to a broad spectrum of presentations with the added challenge of rural medicine. Responsibilities Attend clinical shifts alongside experienced SMOs Participate in non‑clinical development activities and lead a non‑clinical project Cover 1‑4 shift on weekends Provide emergency care to a rural patient population, including paediatric cases Qualifications Commitment to emergency medicine and rural healthcare settings Enthusiasm for working in a smaller, more personal hospital environment Awareness of the health challenges and inequities faced by Māori communities Collaborative spirit aligned with values of Compassion, All‑One‑Team, Responsive, and Excellence About the Team Te Ahuru O Ruhuaariki (Whakatāne Emergency Department) is a dedicated, collaborative, and culturally aware team serving a large rural catchment.
