Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, mission aligned and service‑oriented Library Services Lead to lead our Henderson and Christchurch campus libraries. Laidlaw’s libraries and archives play a vital role in the academic and community life of the College, serving Laidlaw staff, students, alumni and subscription borrowers. Our collection includes a range of high-quality publications in Biblical studies, theology, church history, mission (both local and global), pastoral theology, counselling and education. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this full‑time role provides leadership of a welcoming and supportive library environment, ensuring high‑quality library services and resources that support teaching, learning and research. Your variety of day‑to‑day responsibilities will include: Leading strategic planning, budgeting and the continuous improvement of library services. Providing leadership, training and supervision for library staff across Laidlaw campuses, including mentoring and professional development. Ensuring the effective delivery of library services for all library members Overseeing acquisitions, cataloguing and collection development in consultation with academic staff. Governance and reporting requirements to Laidlaw Academic committees. Managing the Library Management System, electronic resources and databases to ensure accessibility and an excellent user experience. Developing and delivering user specific information literacy initiatives. Managing the Laidlaw Archives Who are we looking for? A relevant library qualification is essential (Bachelor of Library and Information Studies or Master of Information Studies / Library and Information Studies). Proven experience in a customer service focused library environment, preferably within a tertiary education setting. Demonstrated experience engaging with governance‑level reporting (with academic committees, desirable) and working closely with senior executives and academic leaders to support effective decision‑making. Strong leadership skills with experience supervising and mentoring staff. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an approachable and service‑focused orientation. High levels of accuracy, attention to detail and strong organisational skills. Confidence using digital systems and library technologies (experience with Liberty is desirable).
