About the Role Our hospital is home to a dynamic 15‑bed emergency department that cares for around 18,000 patients each year. This vital service is backed by comprehensive 24/7 laboratory and radiology support, including on‑site CT imaging. At the heart of our emergency department is a diverse and dedicated team of clinicians, rural specialists, emergency medical officers, and emergency medicine specialists working together to provide high‑quality care. We assess every patient who presents acutely, ensuring they receive the treatment they need, whether that means care on‑site, transfer, or admission. Our medical roster ensures senior medical officer coverage around the clock, every day of the week. You’ll be joining a collaborative, busy team environment, where 10‑hour shifts are currently in place, offering both challenge and collegial support. Click here to view the position description. About Thames Hospital Thames Hospital is a modern 50‑bed secondary care facility offering a comprehensive range of services, including an emergency department, inpatient care, day surgery, an infusion unit, rehabilitation services, birthing unit and low‑acuity mental health care. Our hospital boasts 24‑hour laboratory and radiology services, including advanced CT imaging. As an accredited training hub, we support 5th and 6th‑year medical students from Auckland University, PGY2 house officers, and registrars in Rural Hospital Medicine and General and Acute Care Medicine. We offer a robust quality improvement program, CME opportunities, and an RMO teaching program. Telehealth is expanding at Thames, supporting inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and emergency services like stroke thrombolysis. As the gateway to The Coromandel, Thames is a charming town steeped in history and surrounded by stunning natural beauty. The area offers a mix of colonial architecture, a vibrant arts scene, and a rich cultural heritage, including Māori history and the town’s gold mining past.
