Job Description

Are you a passionate leader committed to caring for tamariki, te reo Māori, kaupapa Māori education, and growing the next generation of confident Māori learners? Te Puna Reo o Ritimana is seeking an exceptional Pouwhakahaere to lead our Puna Reo. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll work alongside tamariki, kaiako, whānau and our Komiti to nurture a safe, inspiring and high‑quality learning environment grounded in te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori. We’re looking for someone who genuinely puts tamariki at the heart of every decision they make. You’ll be deeply committed to providing the highest quality care and education, advocating for the wellbeing and development of every child, and ensuring our Puna remains a place where tamariki flourish as confident, capable Māori. As Pouwhakahaere, you’ll oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the puna while providing strong leadership, supporting and developing kaimahi, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing funding and finances, and building meaningful relationships with whānau and the wider community. This role requires someone who leads with integrity, resilience and a deep commitment to te reo Māori. In return, you’ll join a close‑knit kaupapa Māori community that genuinely values whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and collective success. You’ll receive strong support from our Komiti, professional supervision, a comprehensive handover from our interim leadership team, a competitive remuneration package, and the unique opportunity to shape the future of a well‑established Puna Reo while making a lasting difference for tamariki, whānau and future generations. Note for applicants: Studies have shown that people from under‑represented backgrounds, including wāhine, are less likely to apply for roles where they don’t match the job description criteria exactly. If you’re excited about this role and think you have what it takes, but your experience doesn’t align 100%, we still want to hear from you and would encourage you to apply.
