Job Description

Early Intervention Teacher Location: Auckland, NewZealand (Maungawhau / MountEden office). Job type: Permanent part‑time. About the role As an Early Intervention Teacher, you will play a critical role in the Learning Support team by providing high‑quality learning support in line with the Ministry’s practice framework and the principles of TeWhāriki, TeWhāriki a teKohanga Reo and HePikorua guiding principles. Responsibilities Providing high quality learning support in line with the Ministry’s practice framework and the principles of TeWhāriki. Building and strengthening the capability of parents, teachers and whānau/ families to support children’s learning. Understanding families’ needs and collaboratively planning, supporting and monitoring the implementation of intervention plans. Supporting transition points in children’s learning pathways, such as transition into early childhood education and to school, as required. Working as part of a trans‑disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex. Qualifications Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) and full registration as a teacher. Post‑graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention, or the ability to attain one within four years of commencing the role. Several years of teaching experience and deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour. Understanding of a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and in early childhood and family home settings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with ākonga/ learners, whānau/ families and kaiako/ teachers across diverse settings. Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles of TeTiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenua‑tanga. Full driver’s licence. NewZealand citizenship, residency or a valid working visa. Commitment to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct. Salary & Benefits Salary range: $69966–$106016 per annum plus KiwiSaver contributions. About the Learning Support team The Learning Support team is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Education Services in the Ministry. Specialists work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in both English and Māori medium settings to maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
