Job Description

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior DevOps Engineer with deep AWS expertise to join a major multi-year payment switch transformation programme. This programme will underpin the next generation of payment products, digital wallets, and modern payment experiences across New Zealand. This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building highly resilient cloud platforms, and working closely with engineering, architecture, security, and vendor teams to deliver mission‑critical infrastructure. You will play a key role in ensuring our payment platform is secure, scalable, highly available, and production‑ready from day one. What you’ll be doing You’ll play a key role in delivering a modern payment switch platform that is secure, reliable, and scalable. Working closely with the Technical Lead, engineers, architects, security specialists, and vendor partners, you will help design, build, automate, and operate the cloud platform that powers critical payment services. Key responsibilities include: Designing, building, and managing secure, highly available AWS infrastructure. Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using modern automation practices. Building and enhancing CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and platform tooling. Supporting test environments and helping drive platform readiness through all stages of delivery. Implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability capabilities across the platform. Strengthening cloud security controls, resilience, disaster recovery, and operational processes. Working closely with software engineers to improve application deployment, performance, and reliability. Troubleshooting complex infrastructure and platform issues across development, testing, and production environments. Contributing to engineering standards, cloud architecture decisions, and DevOps best practices across the programme. What you’ll bring Extensive hands‑on experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or Platform Engineering roles. Strong AWS expertise is essential , including experience designing, building, and operating production AWS environments at scale. Deep knowledge of AWS services across networking, compute, storage, security, IAM, observability, and disaster recovery. Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally using Terraform. Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and deployment frameworks. Experience implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational support practices for business‑critical systems. Strong understanding of cloud security, platform hardening, secrets management, and operational resilience. Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in complex technical environments. Experience working in highly regulated or critical infrastructure environments would be advantageous. Experience in payments, financial services, PCI DSS environments, ISO 8583, or HSM operations would be highly regarded.
