Mō te tūnga | About the role The Bay of Plenty District Intelligence Unit supports Police leaders and officers to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing. Intelligence provides insight into the nature of crime and harm by identifying trends and forecasting future threats, risks, and opportunities. District Intelligence Units provide support to frontline policing including operations, criminal investigations, and priority offender management. We are looking to recruit a Senior Intelligence Analyst to join our team based in Rotorua. This position would suit an experienced Intelligence professional wanting to work in a dynamic environment, supporting decision-makers across tactical, operational and strategic levels. As a Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will be highly proficient in a range of analytic tools and methodology. You will use your advanced critical thinking skills to provide insight and foresight on complex problems and support the development of Intelligence capability across the BOP team and throughout New Zealand Police Intelligence. You will be proactive and innovative, identifying opportunities to add value, improve understanding and reduce uncertainty for our decision makers. As well as demonstrating best practice Intelligence tradecraft and principles, you will bring a team-focused approach to coaching others, support team development and foster a positive and productive team culture. You will be skilled at both written and verbal communication, to enhance a customer’s understanding and to clearly articulate the insight or foresight derived from your analysis. You will demonstrate an ability to influence decision-makers at all levels of the organisation. You will be experienced at establishing and maintaining sustainable partnerships, for the benefit of all involved. Your willingness to get out and talk to people will enhance your understanding of the Intelligence contribution required to ensure positive outcomes for the district. Apply analytical expertise, critical thinking, and crime science principles to identify, assess, and solve complex crime problems, providing actionable insights and opportunities for sustainable crime and harm reduction at a District, regional, or national level. Deliver timely, high-quality intelligence products and complex analytical projects, effectively managing competing priorities and working with limited supervision to achieve team outcomes. Provide technical leadership in intelligence analysis methodologies and tools, coaching and mentoring junior staff, conducting peer reviews, and supporting the development of intelligence tradecraft across the team. Build and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills through clear reports, presentations, and briefings tailored to diverse audiences. Lead by example, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture while supporting continuous improvement, professional development, and high-performance delivery. To be eligible for this role, you must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance. The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is: NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or: A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years : Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.
