Job Description
Mental Health Acute Social Worker – Flexible Crisis Team Permanent, full‑time rostered shifts: 08:00‑16:30 & 15:00‑23:00 across 7 days. Location: North Shore Hospital Liaison Psychiatry with deployment across SMHAS acute continuum. About the role The Flexible Crisis Team (Flexi Team) supports mental health care through flexible staff deployment across the acute continuum of care, including Mental Health ED/Liaison Services and Community Acute Crisis Teams. This role involves working rostered shifts in a fast‑paced acute environment, contributing to maintaining safety, reducing unnecessary admissions and supporting care in the least restrictive environment. Responsibilities Conduct specialist mental health and psychosocial assessment, formulation and intervention for patients experiencing acute deterioration. Collaborate within the multidisciplinary team to identify, plan and address psychosocial factors impacting presentation, safety and disposition. Support safeguarding processes for adults and children at risk, family harm and intimate partner violence. Engage in inter‑agency work, statutory or specialist interventions, and management of family instability and breakdown in care arrangements. Contribute to maintaining safety and reducing unnecessary admissions in the crisis setting. Qualifications Registered Social Worker with current Annual Practising Certificate (APC); full registration with the Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB). Minimum of 3 years experience in mental health, preferably within an acute setting. Demonstrated experience in psychosocial assessment, risk assessment, and crisis intervention. Strong understanding of safeguarding frameworks, family violence, and interagency practice. Excellent communication, critical thinking, decision‑making skills and ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced multidisciplinary team. Commitment to ongoing professional development, including maintaining a CPD log for SWRB requirements. Duly Authorised Officer status, or willingness to undertake training.
