Job Description

Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery – Waikato Full‑time, on‑site position with up to 0.8FTE at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton. Join the world‑class OMS team to advance your career. Overview We are seeking an experienced Specialist to join our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) department at Waikato Hospital. The role involves providing regional acute, elective and outpatient OMS services, including acute workload such as odontogenic infections and facial trauma, as well as elective procedures like dento‑alveolar, complex benign pathology and TMJ surgery. Cleft and orthognathic interest is beneficial but not required. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver complex head and neck oncology care and work closely with ORL Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Medical/Radiation Oncology. The OMS service uniquely performs both ablative procedures and microvascular free‑flap reconstruction. Key Responsibilities Efficient and effective assessment and management of patients, following accepted professional guidelines. Effective documentation and communication of all treatment provided to patients. Attend regular service meetings to collaborate with colleagues and, as required, with management. Provide clinical supervision and teaching for medical officers assigned to the service. Qualifications and Experience Hold or be eligible for registration as a specialist OMS surgeon with the Medical Council and Dental Council of New Zealand. Experience implementing TeTiriti oWaitangi in practice. Hold a current full driver’s licence. Experience in acute, elective, or outpatient OMS work; interest in cleft, orthognathic, oncology, reconstruction, TMJ and trauma is desirable. Ability to work part‑time up to 0.8FTE, with participation in a 1‑in‑5 after‑hours on‑call roster.
