About the Role Job Title: Senior Biomedical Scientist – Microbiology Location: Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow, CM20 1QX Salary: From £51,000 DOE The role is located at Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) and will be part of the new Pathology and Phlebotomy services programme commissioned by the Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board. The programme will expand to a hub laboratory at 7 Croxley Park, Watford, and a secondary hub at the Halo laboratory, Kings Cross. The microbiology team at PAH is a 7‑day service and staff will be expected to cover all relevant shifts. The successful candidate will join our team of dedicated biomedical scientists and associate practitioners to deliver a high‑quality pathology service and will be expected to transfer to one of the new hubs when they become operational (identified as 2026 or 2027). All new hires will be required to complete a DBS check (standard). Responsibilities Deliver routine microbiology testing on a 7‑day service, including sample reception, routine coagulation, and other relevant disciplines. Participate in all necessary shifts to cover the 7‑day work period. Maintain high quality, accurate, and timely reporting of microbiology results. Qualifications Approved undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent). Registered with the Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC). Previous laboratory experience is helpful; full training will be provided. Benefits Training and development opportunities supporting professional growth.
