About Oamaru Hospital Ōamaru Hospital is a rural hospital three hours south of Christchurch in the South Island of New New Zealand and 90 minutes north of Dunedin. It is now part of a Health New Zealand Hospital and we are looking to add two RHM Specialists or Rural Generalists to our team. The hospital provides an acute care area that includes the Emergency Department and observation stabilisation beds, a 20‑bed inpatient unit, laboratory, CT, Ultrasound and X‑Ray diagnostics, a Primary Birthing Unit, Allied Health services and a range of Outpatient and Community Services. Urgent specialist care is transferred by road or helicopter to Invercargill or Dunedin, with close collaboration with St John’s, the Otago Trust Rescue Helicopter and the Dunedin ICU Retrieval Service. About the Role We are seeking dual‑trained RHM/FACEM, FACEM with rural hospital experience, Rural GP with ED and ward experience, or an Ulcer care specialist with rural hospital experience. You will work in a small, dedicated team of nurses and allied health professionals, contributing to service development and patient care across both inpatient and emergency settings. Responsibilities Provide acute medical and emergency care in the ED and inpatient ward. Coordinate patient transfers to specialist centres by road or helicopter. Support and supervise medical trainees and allied health staff. Assist in the development and improvement of local rural health services. Participate in community and primary care initiatives in partnership with local health organisations. Qualifications Fellow of the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine (FDRHM) with an interest and experience in Emergency medicine. Dual‑trained RHM/FACEM or FACEM with rural hospital medicine experience. General Practitioner with rural hospital medicine experience. Post‑graduate qualification in Point of Care Ultrasound preferred. Benefits This role falls under the ASMS Collective Agreement and is salaried between Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980) per annum pro rata.
