Job Description
Registered Nurse – Neonatal Location: Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora, New Plymouth, New Zealand. Full‑time on‑site, 0.8 FTE. Overview We invite you to join our level2A neonatal unit, where the focus is evidence‑based care for newborns and family‑centred support. The unit has eight cot spaces, including two dedicated to intensive care. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay with their infant 24hours a day, and kangaroo care is supported. Responsibilities Deliver nursing care to newborns in a level2A neonatal unit. Work in a team of 3‑4 nurses per shift; shifts are 8‑hour rostered and rotating across a 7‑day cycle, with a mid‑shift service four days per week. Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff, including medical staff, social workers, neonatal home‑care nurses, speech‑language therapists, and neuro‑developmental therapists. Provide Family and Infant Neurodevelopmental Education (FINE) training to families. Support parents and caregivers, keeping them well informed and involved in their infant’s care. Participate in hand‑over, documentation, continuous quality improvement, and local project and regional collaboration teams. Assist with follow‑up after discharge, including visits by the dedicated Neonatal Homecare Nurse and outpatient paediatrician care. Qualifications Valid NewZealand nursing registration and APC. Previous NewZealand experience working in a neonatal environment. Hardworking, self‑motivated, adaptable, and enthusiastic team player. Willingness to develop skills and engage in professional development, including postgraduate studies. Commitment to the principles of TeTiriti o Waitangi and culturally appropriate care for Māori and other communities.
