Job Description

Site Traffic Management Specialist (STMS) Location: Timaru, South Canterbury, New Zealand. Full‑time, permanent position working on site. Overview You will be part of the maintenance team supporting critical maintenance and construction work by ensuring robust and compliant traffic management, keeping workers and the public safe while fostering smooth project delivery. Key Responsibilities Prepare, review, and implement Traffic Management Plans (TMPs), making adjustments as necessary to address project and site changes. Work as part of a crew, physically fit and able to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions and undertake manual tasks. Communicate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, clients, and the public to ensure clear understanding and minimal disruption. Maintain accurate records of site activities, incidents, and near‑misses for reporting and continuous improvement. Qualifications & Skills Current STMS qualification and demonstrated on‑site experience in temporary traffic management within civil infrastructure or construction. Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements as they relate to road, infrastructure, and construction projects. Excellent communication skills to engage and collaborate effectively with diverse teams, the public, and key stakeholders. Proactive approach to risk identification, hazard management, and process improvement. Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work calmly under pressure in changing environments. Valid New Zealand driver’s licence (ideally Class2).
