Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground gold mine. A recent consent for the Waihi North Project, a new mine to be developed 6km north of the existing operation has provided a long-term extension of mine life providing our 400 staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for the long-term.

Job Description

Develop and maintain the Waihi North Project (WNP) Schedules, including the project master schedule, ensuring data integrity. The Principal Project Planner will be responsible for developing, maintaining, analysing and optimising the project schedules using Primavera P6/MS Project software linking schedule to the resourcing and cost WBS models. Provide direct support to the Project Controls Manager and WNP Project Director.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project schedules using Primavera P6/MS Project based on project scope, requirements, and timelines.
  • Work closely with the Project Managers, Project Director, Study Manager and stakeholders to understand project objectives and constraints.
  • Identify & report current and changes in critical paths, milestones, and dependencies.
  • Optimize project completion timelines and resource allocation.
  • Update and maintain project schedules with accurate progress data, resource assignments, and cost information.
  • Analyse schedule performance, identify variances, and propose corrective actions to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Generate reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders.
  • Develop policies and procedures for the effective use of project planning systems.
  • Maintain portfolio schedules, including resource levelling of internal resources.
  • Ability to develop and run alternative scenario plans to identify preferred business models.
  • Development of cost estimates for work packages utilising industry and company cost norms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate project schedules with other project management tools and systems.
  • Integrate and import contractors schedule information and key dates.
  • Identify scope performance deficiencies and communicate with project leadership team.
  • Provide training and guidance to project team members on using Primavera P6/MS Project for schedule management.
  • Provide quality assurance techniques to ensure accuracy and reliability of project planning systems.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary education qualification (preferred).
  • Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.

Experience:

  • 10-15 years project planning experience with large multi-discipline infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in mining preferred.
  • Expert in Primavera 6.
  • Expert in MS Project.
  • Exposure to industrial process plants, dams and water treatment plants.
  • Exposure to budgets, commitments and cost reporting.
