Job Description
Psychiatric Registrar – 2027 Training Year Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora operates a 110‑bed acute care hospital in Gisborne, serving a regional population of 54,000. The role is a full‑time registrar position under specialist psychiatrist supervision, based at Gisborne Hospital. Responsibilities Deliver mental health assessment and treatment to both hospital and community patients. Work under specialist psychiatrist supervision at all times. Conduct outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and on‑call duties with a specialist psychiatrist available. Qualifications A medical degree and completion of basic training in psychiatry, progressing toward Fellowship or equivalent. Ability to manage complex, high‑pressure situations while maintaining a compassionate and patient‑centred approach. Suitable for Resident Medical Officers PGY3 and above. Registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. NZ or Australian citizenship/residency, or a valid visa to work in NZ. Competency with Te Ao Māori, Tikanga, and Te reo Māori or a commitment to learning and growth. Experience in projects or initiatives that implement Te Tiriti principles and Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches in health settings.
