About the Role As a Senior Advisor, you'll play a key role in implementing Health New Zealand's national sustainability work programme, supporting regions and local teams to deliver meaningful environmental initiatives that create lasting impact. Working closely with Principal Advisors and stakeholders across the organisation, you'll lead projects, provide expert advice and help translate strategy into practical action. You'll champion sustainable ways of working, helping teams understand how everyday decisions, with a focus on procurement and waste minimisation as levers to reduce environmental impact while supporting better health outcomes. This role has a strong focus on: Leading sustainability projects that support Health NZ's national priorities. Developing and delivering sustainability communications and engagement initiatives that inspire staff to take action. Supporting sustainable procurement practices by working with internal teams to reduce environmental impacts across purchasing and supply chains. Driving waste reduction and resource recovery initiatives across hospitals and healthcare facilities. Providing evidence-based advice on environmental sustainability, climate impacts and continuous improvement opportunities. Supporting strong relationships with regional teams, local government and external partners to accelerate sustainability outcomes. You'll also contribute to developing guidance, standards and operational policy, analyse data to inform decision-making, and represent the Sustainability team in forums and working groups. About you You're an experienced sustainability professional who enjoys turning strategy into action and influencing people to embrace sustainable change. You combine technical expertise with excellent communication skills and know how to engage diverse audiences—from frontline staff to senior leaders. Whether you're developing an awareness campaign, improving procurement practices or leading waste reduction initiatives, you're motivated by creating practical solutions that deliver measurable results. You’ll bring: A relevant tertiary qualification in sustainability, environmental science, engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). Experience leading successful sustainability initiatives within large or complex organisations. Demonstrated expertise in sustainability communications, staff engagement and behaviour change. Experience supporting sustainable procurement, resource efficiency and waste minimisation initiatives or responsible supply chain practices. Some knowledge of waste management, waste minimisation and resource efficiency programmes. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to provide clear, evidence‑based advice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues simply and influence positive change. A collaborative approach and proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships across multidisciplinary teams. An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act and a commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for all New Zealanders. Experience in healthcare or the public sector is advantageous but not essential.
