Programme Lead - Christchurch (Woolston)

Make a real impact with young people This is a hands‑on youth development role, leading an after‑school programme for tamariki aged 5‑12. You’ll be creating a space where young people feel safe, included and excited to be there. Through play, activity and connection, you’ll help build confidence, friendships and life skills in a way that feels natural and engaging for the group. You’re the key adult in the room each day, setting the tone, building relationships, and leading the overall experience for the young people on programme. About the role Your day‑to‑day is focused on being present with the group and making the programme work. You’ll be: Leading games, activities and structured sessions Building strong relationships with tamariki and whānau Coordinating school pick‑ups (driving required) Preparing and providing afternoon tea Supporting behaviour and group dynamics Creating a safe, inclusive and positive environment The role requires regular work from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday. You will be supported by another staff member on programme, with oversight and coordination from a Youthtown Team Leader. About you You enjoy working directly with young people and bring a natural energy into group environments. You’re confident leading activities, can build rapport quickly, and know how to create a space where young people feel comfortable and engaged. You’re also practical and organised, able to manage the flow of the afternoon while keeping the experience positive for everyone involved. This role suits people with experience in youth work, sport or recreation, community programmes, mentoring, or similar environments where you’ve worked directly with groups of young people.
