About the Role The Cardiac Ultrasound Department at Auckland City Hospital is seeking a qualified Cardiac Sonographer to join our team in a permanent position. As part of New Zealand’s largest tertiary hospital, you will work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment providing high-quality diagnostic cardiac ultrasound services to a diverse patient population. Our department performs a broad range of echocardiographic examinations and is committed to delivering exceptional patient‑centred care. Our service operates across inpatient and outpatient settings, providing exposure to a varied case mix ranging from routine investigations through to complex cardiac pathology. You will work closely with cardiologists, cardiac physiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support the diagnosis and management of patients with a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. The department undertakes a diverse range of procedures including transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), stress echocardiography, contrast echocardiography, bubble studies, and transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) support. You will also have the opportunity to work with patients across acute cardiology, intensive care, and specialist outpatient services. You will be required to obtain registration as a sonographer with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologist Board www.mrtboard.org.nz About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB), or eligibility to obtain registration and be actively progressing through the registration process. A recognised qualification in Cardiac Ultrasound, such as a Postgraduate Diploma in Ultrasound, DMU (ASUM), or an equivalent qualification recognised by the MRTB. A sound understanding of professional standards, ethics, and patient confidentiality. Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and respond appropriately to clinical urgency. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
