The team is responsible for developing and delivering the organisation’s capability-building strategy and learning programmes, supporting our people to lift performance and achieve the goals of Te Korowai o Kaitiakitanga, including strengthening our regulatory approach. The Culture and Capability team serves as a key partner in the Te Korowai programme, ensuring that the desired culture and capability outcomes are effectively embedded, well‑managed, and clearly communicated throughout the organisation. Te tūnga | The role The Senior Advisor Culture and Capability role is a 6-month fixed‑term maternity cover opportunity supporting the delivery of Maritime NZ's capability programmes with a focus on Leadership. You’ll provide continuity across key initiatives and be a trusted source of capability expertise for the organisation. Key responsibilities include: Maintaining momentum across the MNZ capability suite, with a focus on leadership development. This includes ensuring we continue to offer relevant and impactful capability programmes aligned to our Leadership pathways that build leadership capability at every level Lead our Onboarding and Induction experience by evolving our employee induction experience Supporting the design, development, implementation of other core capability initiatives, programmes, and projects that align with the organisation’s capability strategy, regulatory approach, and strategic priorities Partner across the business to ensure our capability solutions are practical, effective, and deliver measurable outcomes We're looking for an adaptable and collaborative capability practitioner who can step in confidently to our team, build effective relationships quickly, and provide continuity to our business. You’ll be the kind of person who thinks your way through a problem, provides great solutions, and be a team first player at heart. Ideal candidates will have: Proven experience in capability development and the end-to-end (L&D) lifecycle, including the design, development, delivery, implementation, and evaluation of pragmatic capability solutions The ability to identify business needs and translate them into practical and impactful capability initiatives that build organisational capability and support strategic outcomes Excellent project management skills, with the ability to pick up existing work quickly and manage multiple projects at once A delivery mindset with a history of delivering work effectively, where outcomes were achieved, and commitments are delivered to a high standard The ability to thrive in ambiguity, known to progress and deliver outcomes while responding flexibly to emerging business needs and priorities Good stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building skills, with a genuine desire to work alongside the business and with diverse stakeholders Strong understanding of learning theory, models and contemporary practices Good working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and what it means to be an effective Treaty partner, as well as cultural capability required to work effectively with Māori Well‑developed presentation and facilitation skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Technical savvy, with experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and using on‑line authoring tools (eg Articulate Rise) Maritime NZ recognises and respects te Tiriti o Waitangi and we are committed to working with Māori to build strong, meaningful and enduring relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
