About the Role As a Patient Support & Security Worker in the Adult Mental Health Unit, you will: Assist our teams to ensure that we continue to provide a welcoming and safe environment primarily for the Inpatient Mental Health Unit (Wahi Oranga) at Nelson Hospital. Focus on working with staff to best meet the needs of patients and their whānau accessing our services. This is a permanent, full‑time role working 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE), Monday to Friday 7.00 AM to 3.30 PM at Adult Mental Health Unit, Wāhi Oranga. About you As a Patient Support & Security Worker (in the Adult Mental Health Unit), you will be the type of person who: Works in a rational and calm manner; Has the skills and experience to effectively de‑escalate difficult situations; Promotes a safe and therapeutic environment; Relates well to patients and their visitors; Works with the clinical team and follows directions. Previous experience in security, or a related industry is preferred. However, this is not essential as training will be provided. Additionally, you will have: Empathy and a non‑judgmental attitude towards patients and members of the public; The ability to relate with ease to people from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds; The ability to recognise and pass on issues that may affect patient welfare; A good level of physical fitness and mobility. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ work visa at the time of applying.
