About the Role We are seeking Specialist Plastic Surgery Consultants for both a Permanent and a Fixed-Term position to join our team at Waikato Hospital. This role offers a broad scope of practice across acute and elective surgery, outpatient clinics, and regional outreach services, with participation in the on‑call roster. Together with strong general skills, we welcome applicants with interests in Hand Surgery, Cleft Lip and Palate, Breast, Head and Neck, or Burns Surgery, although all subspecialty interests will be considered. Our Plastic Surgery Unit delivers comprehensive services across Waikato and the wider Midland Region, a population of over a million, supporting patients in Gisborne, Taranaki, Rotorua, and four satellite hospitals. Alongside clinical responsibilities, you’ll contribute to teaching, audit, quality improvement, and service development. Whether you are an experienced consultant or starting your consultant career, you’ll play an important role in shaping the future of the service while caring for a diverse population of more than one million people. We have a permanent role plus a fixed‑term to cover leave, and can be flexible with FTE. Key responsibilities Acute and elective surgery Ward rounds for acute and elective patients Teaching and supervision of junior doctors and other healthcare professionals Participation in quality improvement and service development activities About Our Service Waikato Hospital is a major tertiary referral and teaching centre providing a full range of plastic surgery services, including hand surgery, head and neck reconstruction, lower limb reconstruction, cleft lip and palate care, and regional burns services for the Midland Region. You will join a well‑established team of eight Consultants and three Medical Officers, supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team. The department provides specialist services across five regional secondary hospitals and four satellite hospitals.
