About the Team You’ll join ASB's Credit Applications team within the Lend & Protect business area. The team is responsible for the technology that supports lending and credit decisioning across retail and business banking, along with a range of integration services and supporting platforms that connect critical systems across the organisation. The work is varied, technically challenging, and highly visible. From maintaining and enhancing core lending services through to modernising applications and integrations, you’ll be part of a team that combines enterprise scale with the autonomy and collaboration of a smaller engineering group. About the Role This role exists to design, build, support and continuously improve the APIs, integrations and backend services that underpin key lending and business processes across ASB. Success in this role means delivering reliable, scalable solutions, contributing to technical excellence, supporting operational resilience, and helping the wider team improve the way software is built and delivered. Key responsibilities include: Design, develop and maintain APIs, backend services and system integrations Support and enhance critical lending and business applications Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to incident response and resolution activities Improve application performance, reliability and operational supportability Contribute to modernisation initiatives across cloud and on-premises environments Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices, quality standards and technical excellence Lead or contribute to technical initiatives and project deliveries across the team About You You will be an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across systems, and taking ownership of outcomes. You’re equally comfortable designing solutions, writing quality code, investigating incidents, and helping others grow. You thrive in collaborative environments but can also work independently, lead initiatives, and make sound technical decisions when needed. You will bring: Strong commercial experience developing applications using C# and .NET Experience building and supporting RESTful APIs and backend services Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems Experience designing and implementing system integrations across multiple platforms Knowledge of authentication and authorisation technologies such as OAuth and JWT Strong SQL Server and database design experience Experience using Git-based version control and modern source control practices Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation tools Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, including API testing and debugging using tools such as Postman Experience working with Azure DevOps or similar delivery and release management platforms Familiarity with both cloud-based and on-premises environments Experience supporting production systems and participating in incident management activities Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non‑technical stakeholders Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to engineering standards and best practices A solid understanding of Agile software delivery practices Working at ASB At ASB, you’ll join a team that cares deeply about delivering great outcomes for our customers and creating an environment where our people can do their best work.
