Job Overview Full‑time, permanent opportunity at Christchurch Women’s Prison. Help people in prison build confidence and skills for future employment. ‘Kotahi anō te kaupapa, ko te oranga o te iwi’- ‘There is only one purpose to our work: the wellness and wellbeing of our people.’ About the role Our prison kitchen at Christchurch Women’s Prison is responsible for producing approximately 800 meals, three times a day for Christchurch Women’s Prison & Rolleston prison. As a Catering & Laundry Instructor, you will provide direct supervision and practical training within a commercial kitchen setting, from general meal preparation and delivery to corporate catering, and enable our people to achieve NZQA qualifications. The role also supports the laundry operation as part of the wider Internal Services team. Instructors have the same classification as Corrections Officers and complete the same initial training courses, including on‑site training and residential training at the National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt. Hours: 80 hours per fortnight, Monday to Sunday 0600–1800. Working public holidays, overtime or callouts may be required. Responsibilities Provide direct supervision and practical training in a commercial kitchen; facilitate meal preparation, delivery and corporate catering; support the laundry operation; ensure compliance with health & safety and NZQA standards; develop effective relationships with inmates; contribute to a culturally diverse environment. Qualifications Experience and a proven passion in the catering industry at a professional level. London City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or equivalent trade qualifications. Outstanding health & safety practices. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to develop effective relationships. Ability to motivate and develop people within a team environment. Ability to operate in a culturally diverse setting and understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi. A full NZ driver licence. Experience as an adult educator or NZAQ assessor (4098) is an advantage. Benefits The starting salary is $72,514 – $90,322 per annum, with opportunities to increase salary over time up to $90,322 (Level3+).
