Job Description

Civil Project Engineer Location: Central Otago or Queenstown Contract Type: Permanent, Fulltime Reporting to the Department Manager – Civil, you will play a key role in delivering a diverse range of civil infrastructure projects across the region. You will provide technical engineering support, coordinate site activities, manage project documentation, and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. About the role As a Civil Project Engineer, you will support the successful delivery of civil construction projects from planning through to completion. You will work closely with the Department Manager, project teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with specifications. This hands‑on role combines technical engineering expertise with practical project delivery responsibilities, including on‑site coordination, documentation management, progress monitoring, and engineering solution provision. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate day‑to‑day engineering activities on civil construction projects. Support the planning, delivery, and completion of projects in line with programme, budget, and quality objectives. Provide engineering support and technical guidance to site teams. Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and project resources to ensure efficient work progress. Prepare, review, and manage project documentation, including quality records, methodologies, work plans, programmes, and reporting requirements. Assist with procurement, cost tracking, forecasting, and project financial management. Monitor project progress and identify risks, opportunities, and solutions to support successful outcomes. Ensure compliance with contract specifications, engineering standards, and relevant legislation. Maintain strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and project teams. Promote and champion health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across all project activities. Provide regular project updates and engineering support to the Department Manager. Qualifications Tertiary qualification in Engineering, preferably a Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years’ experience within civil construction, infrastructure, or contracting environments. Demonstrated experience supporting the delivery of civil infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project delivery processes, and project management principles. Experience with programming, cost control, quality assurance, and project documentation. Strong technical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to provide practical engineering solutions. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Proactive approach with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
